Description:
Clinical supervision is an integral component to the training and development of professionals in the field of professional counseling. There are many ways to accomplish this goal. It is believed that group supervision offers supervisees with an important and unique learning context. It can provide a supportive environment where peers are able to share similar concerns and explore common skills and goals. Peer supervision allows licensed professionals to pursue activities around counseling and supervision issues salient to supervision practices. Triadic supervision, which is approved by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, enables supervisors to work with two supervisees simultaneously in supervision.

This workshop will explore these alternative approaches to the traditional one-to-one individual supervision. Effective strategies and best practices for each approach will be reviewed and practiced. There will be opportunities to see examples and critique the role of the supervisor.

Presenter Bio:
Toni R. Tollerud, Ph.D., LCPC, NCC, NCSC, ACS is a Distinguished Teaching Professor Emerita from the Department of Counseling Ault and Higher Education at Northern Illinois University.  As an educator for over 40 years, Dr. Tollerud has had extensive experiences in supervision training including student teachers, school counselors, agency counselors, and counselors-in-training. These experiences have been beneficial in helping to develop the supervision course at NIU, as well as doing numerous presentations around the state and at conferences on issues related to supervision. Participants in her classes and workshops come away enthused and informed regarding ways they can improve their own supervisory skills and relationships. Dr. Tollerud is Past-President of the Illinois Counseling Association, North Central Association of Counselor Educators and Supervisors, and the Illinois Counselor Educators and Supervisors. She has received numerous awards for her professional work including the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association Outstanding Service Award in 2006, IMHCA Impact Award in 2019, and Illinois Counselor Educators Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. She has published numerous articles and book chapters on counseling issues. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, National Certified School Counselor, approved Clinical Supervisor, and a graduate of the University of Iowa. She also holds a Retired Professional Educators License in Illinois for elementary and secondary teaching and school counseling. She loves to travel with her spouse and spend time with her 6-year- old granddaughter.

Cancellation Policy

Registrations, cancelled before seven days prior to the workshop, can be refunded minus a $20.00 administrative fee. You can switch to another Supervision workshop for no additional fee or penalty. Workshops may be cancelled or rescheduled due to inadequate registration or other circumstances beyond our control. If IMHCA cancels a workshop due to inadequate registration, you will receive a full refund. IMHCA is not responsible for any loss or damage as a result of substitution, alteration, or cancellation of an event. IMHCA shall assume no liability whatsoever in the event that a workshop is cancelled, rescheduled or postponed due to fortuitous event, Act of God, unforeseen occurrences or any other event that renders performance of this conference impracticable, illegal or impossible. For purposes of this clause, a fortuitous event shall include, but not be limited to: war, fire, labor strike, government regulation, extreme weather or other emergency. IMHCA will make every effort to offer a substitution event in the case IMHCA cancels because of a fortuitous event or Act of God.
