Description:
Sometimes the supervisory relationship does not go smoothly. Supervisors must be prepared to go beyond basic supervisory skills to address difficult situations when they arise and challenge their role. This workshop will focus on advanced skills needed by supervisors regarding difficult supervisees and the issues they bring to supervision. First it will explore prevention strategies supervisors can use to avoid difficult situations before they develop. Further it will identify typical problems encountered in the supervisory relationship and recommend strategies supervisors can use to address these concerns. Issues include anxiety, resistance, conflict, incompetency, impairment, psychological stress, and transference/countertransference. Handouts will be provided.
