About the Presenter: Francesca G. Giordano, Ph.D. is Program Director for the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology at the Family Institute at Northwestern University. Prior to joining the Family Institute, she was a professor of Counseling in the Department of Counseling, Adult and Health Education at Northern Illinois University. She is also a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois.  For the past ten years, she has been an administrator and counselor educator with a specialization in mental health, consultation and ethics.  She was an Illinois Professional Counselor Licensing and Disciplinary Board member, and is a board member for the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association and Past President of the Illinois Counseling Association.  She is also highly successful workshop presenter and offers workshops for the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association including an exam preparation workshop for the LCPC license and workshops on Legal and Ethical Issues. She is the Co-Editor for the Journal of Counseling in Illinois. She consults with mental health centers in the areas of effective treatment planning, ethical issues, anger and therapeutic change.  In 1998, she received the Counselor Educator of the Year award by the American Mental Health Counselors Association, in 2002 she received the Distinguish Service award from the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association, in 2006 she received the Counselor Educator of the Year award from the Illinois Counselor Education and Supervision Association and in 2009 she received the C.A. Michelman award for Outstanding Service to the Counseling Profession. As a staff member at The Family Institute, her clinical practice specializes in sexuality counseling, anger management, and relationship restoration in couples.

This workshop provides information about how to change your thinking to succeed in business endeavors as a mental health professional.  Concepts such as effective networking, creating a business plan, establishing a board of directors, fine tuning the art of negotiation and thinking and communicating in a manner that will promote success in business are covered.  
About the Presenter:
Joyce Marter has been in private practice as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) since 1998 and co-founded Urban Balance in 2004. Marter received her Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Northwestern University and was awarded Distinguished Alumni of the Year in 2008. She was selected by Crain's Chicago Business for the "40 Under 40" list of 2010.  She currently serves as the Vice President of the Board of the Illinois Mental Health Counselors and is a writer and Editorial Advisor for Wellness Times.  She is a public speaker for businesses, organizations and at universities on a variety of topics related to mental health, addiction and career. Marter has been consulted as a psychological expert on television, radio and in publications such as The Wall Street Journal and U.S. News.  After being interviewed on the topic of transition to family by such publications as American Baby Magazine, Joyce currently has a book in development.  "First Comes Love, Then Comes Carriage: Solutions for Creating a Loving Relationship During Parenthood" that will help couples successfully navigate the common relationship pitfalls that accompany early parenthood.
