This webinar will address the legal issues involved for mental health professionals who receive a subpoena or court order to produce their records or to testify. The webinar will assist individuals in obtaining a basic understanding of subpoenas, responding to subpoenas, and consequences to the individual resulting from receiving a subpoena. About the Presenter: Jennifer E. Simms, JD, MA, LCPC, is a 2000 graduate of the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law and received a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Illinois University. She is admitted to the state court of Illinois, the United States District Court for the North District of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, and the Seventh Circuit Court of appeals. She is also licensed in the State of Illinois as a Clinical Professional Counselor. She authored the articles “The Open and Obvious Doctrine and Landowner Liability: The Rule and the Exceptions” and “Employer’s Tort Liability for Employees’ Injuries: A Primer,” which both appeared in the Illinois State Bar Journal. She is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Illinois Counseling Association, and Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association.
