Consultant Early Childhood Program 1980-1985
Supervisor Specialization: Women's Issues,Domestic Violence, Trauma Work, Crisis Intervention, Divorce Mediation, Loss and Grief, Learning Disabilities and its impact on the family.
Supervision Style: Supervision orientation is on a developmental model with the focus being on the relationship and the importance of the relationship in both supervision and therapy. I beleive that the focus of therapy begins with the here and now and then focuses on the there and then past issues as they come up. I believe in client self determination and building on clients strenghts and the importance of these strengths in our clients lives. I believe that we, as therapists, need to know our own issues and how those issues impact our working with our clients. Supervision/consultation is not therapy but self awareness is critical. In our practice we are dealing with clients in various stages of crisis and with varing degrees of trauma (especially in today's world). Understanding crisis therapy and trauma is essential as we, as therapists, are often expereincing our own secondary post-traumatic stress and understanding how we handle these issues impacts our success with our clients.
Supervisor Services: Currently I have a private practice out of my home in Highland Park. I am willing to see individuals in my office and depending on scheduling I am willing to travel. If I traveled fee would reflect travel time. My hours are flexible and change as my teaching schedule changes from quarter to quarter. Degree: MS in Counseling
Education: I am currently a doctoral candidate working on my dissertation (on best practices of professional clinical supervision) in the counseling program at Northern Illinois University. I have training in many therapeutic theoretical models incluidng cognitive-behavioral, transpersonal/psychosynthesis, Gestalt, Asian psychotherapies, family therapies, multicultural, crisis counseling, and biofeedback.
Professional Experience: I have been a counselor for 22 years. During my doctoral internship at NIU, I received extensive experience providing clinical supervision for counselor trainees in a variety of settings. These included public and private mental health agencies, publice schools, and in the NIU Counseling Lab. Upon completion of my doctoral "comps" NIU hired me to provide clinical supervision for masters level interns in both group and individual counseling. In my private practice I have been supervising counselors who are both licensed and seeking licensure.
Supervisor Specialization: I have done therapy with individuals, marriage/couples, and groups. Anxiety/panic, grief, bipolar, depression, PTSD, transpersonal, and developmental issues have been my major areas of therapeutic focus. I utilize cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, transpersonal, and biofeedback techniques in my therapeutic practice. Professional clinical supervision is also a major area of specialization in my practice.
Supervision Style: I am fundamentally grounded in the developmental model of clinical supervision; though I am familiar with and use techniques from many other theoretical models. I am adept at determining a supervisee's current level of professional development within the fluid context of supervision which is dependent upon the issues at hand. I utilize a variety of methods/practices that are appropriate to each unique individual situation. Supervisory functions include supporting/sharing, consulting, advising, modeling, and monitoring/assessment. The supervisee can expect to develop greater expertise in the areas of specific counseling skills, case conceptualization, professionalism/ethics, emotional self-awareness, and self-evaluation. the process is highly collaborative in which clear mutual goals and assessment procedures are established.
Supervisor Services: I am offering professional clinical supervision for licensed mental health professionals and mental health professionals seeking clinical supervision required for licensure. I am open to both individual and group supervision. I see clients in my home office in Crystal Lake, IL. I am willing to travel to nearby locations, however travel time is factored into fees. Summer hours are relatively open. Regular hours are limited to afternoon/evening and Sat. morning & afternoon.

Supervision Style: If you are simply interested in "survival" in an era of managed care, please do not call. I am an existentially oriented, person-centered Gestalt therapist. My major orientation/style is to challenge you to focus on the feelings of both the client and counselor in an attempt to facilitate the development of a string bond between client and counselor. In most instances, this bond must be firmly established for personal counseling to be successful. Without it, there will be little or no progress. Form a TA frame reference, I encourage the supervisee to think of the counselor-client relationship as: I'm OK, you're OK.
