    Sec. 10. Definitions. = As used in this Act:
   "Professional counseling" means the provision of services to individuals, couples, groups, families, and organizations in any one or more of the fields of professional counseling. Professional counseling includes, but is not lim= ited to:
       &nbs= p;(1) social, emotional, educational, and career

testing and evaluation;

     &nbs= p;  (2) a professional relationship between a counselor

    <= span style=3D'font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:black'>

and a client in which the counse= lor provides assistance in coping with life issues that include relationshi= ps, conflicts, problem solving, decision making, and developmental concerns; and

     &nbs= p;  (3) research.
    Professional counseling may also include clinical professional counseling as long as it is not conducted in independent private practice as defined in this Act. =
    "Clinical professional counseling" means the provision of professional counsel= ing and mental health services, which includes, but is not limited to, the application of clinical counseling theory and techniques to prevent and alleviate mental and emotional disorders and psychopathology and to promo= te optimal mental health, rehabilitation, treatment, testing, assessment, and evaluation. It also includes clinical counseling and psychotherapy in a professional relationship to assist individuals, couples, families, group= s, and organizations to alleviate emotional disorders, to understand conscio= us and unconscious motivation, to resolve emotional, relationship, and attitudinal conflicts, and to modify behaviors that interfere with effect= ive emotional, social, adaptive, and intellectual functioning.
