Ongoing computerized licensure testing becomes a reality in Illinois. Please follow up with the IMHCA website as more details emerge.
IMHCA and CICO have advocated for several years for a change in the
licensure application process and the examination process.
Starting September 1, 2007 computerized testing will be available in Illinois for the NCE and NCMHCE exams.
The process is as follows;
Application deadlines no longer exist!
Applicants will submit their application for licensure to the IDFPR when they qualify.
If they will be graduating soon they wait until they have graduated,
If they will have the work hours soon, they wait until they have the
work hours.
If they are applying for the LPC, and they have graduated from a CACREP accredited program (for those not sure about their program
there is a list at) http://www.cacrep.org/directory-current.html
IDFPR staff will review their application. If it is complete and all
is in order they will receive a letter from IDFPR that they are
approved to sit for the exam. "a Counselor Examination Application
Evaluation Notice"
If they did not graduate from a CACREP program their academic credetials will be reviewed by the Counselor Licensure Board. If it is complete and all is in order they will receive a letter from IDFPR that they are approved to sit for the exam. "a Counselor Examination Application Evaluation Notice"
Their work experience will also be evaluated by IDFPR and if
necessary by the Counselor Licensure Board. If it is complete and
all is in order they will receive a letter from IDFPR that they are
approved to sit for the exam. "a Counselor Examination Application
Evaluation Notice"
Next they will go to the Continental Testing website and the NBCC
website referred to in their letter from IDFPR.
They will apply to take the exam at the Continental Testing Website.
They can either print the form and mail it in with payment or they
can complete the form online and submit it with credit card payment

Next they will go to the NBCC website and register for the exam.
(This is still being developed)
After successfully completing the above steps the applicant will receive an ATT Authorization to Test letter from NBCC.
Then they phone to schedule the test date, time and location.
Locations to test:
To be announced soon. Testing centers will be in a variety of locations throughout Illinois including several outside the metropolitan Chicago area.
