Writing Treatment Plans and Case Notes: Helpful Hints for Practitioner

Fran Giordano, PhD, LCPC presents this 3 hour webinar (3CEs)

This workshop will help practitioners learn strategies for documenting treatment.  The specific content of case notes that is effective as a liability protection will be detailed. Difficult documentation issues such as documenting groups, couples, families; and integrating one’s theoretical approach will be discussed.

About the Presenter: Francesca G. Giordano, Ph.D. is Program Director for the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology at the Family Institute at Northwestern University. Prior to joining the Family Institute, she was a professor of Counseling in the Department of Counseling, Adult and Health Education at Northern Illinois University. She is also a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois.  For the past ten years, she has been an administrator and counselor educator with a specialization in mental health, consultation and ethics.  She was an Illinois Professional Counselor Licensing and Disciplinary Board member, and is a board member for the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association and Past President of the Illinois Counseling Association.  She is also highly successful workshop presenter and offers workshops for the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association including an exam preparation workshop for the LCPC license and workshops on Legal and Ethical Issues. She is the Co-Editor for the Journal of Counseling in Illinois. She consults with mental health centers in the areas of effective treatment planning, ethical issues, anger and therapeutic change.  In 1998, she received the Counselor Educator of the Year award by the American Mental Health Counselors Association, in 2002 she received the Distinguish Service award from the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association, in 2006 she received the Counselor Educator of the Year award from the Illinois Counselor Education and Supervision Association and in 2009 she received the C.A. Michelman award for Outstanding Service to the Counseling Profession. As a staff member at The Family Institute, her clinical practice specializes in sexuality counseling, anger management, and relationship restoration in couples.

Responding to a Subpoena or Court Order

Jennifer Simms, LCPC, JD presents this 1 hour webinar (1CE)

This webinar will address the legal issues involved for mental health professionals who receive a subpoena or court order to produce their records or to testify.  The webinar will assist individuals in obtaining a basic understanding of subpoenas, responding to subpoenas, and consequences to the individual resulting from receiving a subpoena.

About the Presenter: Jennifer E. Simms, JD, MA, LCPC, is a 2000 graduate of the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law and received a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Illinois University. Her practice is currently concentrated on the defense of professional, municipal, construction, premises, and product liability. She is admitted to the state court of Illinois, the United States District Court for the North District of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, and the Seventh Circuit Court of appeals. She is also licensed in the State of Illinois as a Clinical Professional Counselor. She practices at Baugh, Dalton, Carlson, and Ryan LLC. Located at 135 S. LaSalle Street, Suite 2100, Chicago, IL. She authored the articles “The Open and Obvious Doctrine and Landowner Liability: The Rule and the Exceptions” and “Employer’s Tort Liability for Employees’ Injuries: A Primer,” which both appeared in the Illinois State Bar Journal. She is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Illinois Counseling Association, and Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association.
